English as a Second Language (ESL) - Beginner
Our Beginner ESL classes provide non-native English language learners an introduction to reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. In our Beginner classes, we help students build a foundational understanding of English while building essential vocabulary and a basic understanding of English grammar. Beginner courses correspond to CEFR Levels A1 and A2.
English as a Second Language (ESL) - Intermediate
Our Intermediate ESL classes help non-native English language learners take their English language skills to the next level. In our Intermediate courses, students begin to bridge the gap between survival English and fluency. Intermediate courses correspond to CEFR Levels B1 and B2.
Conversation Practice
During the summer months, we take time to focus solely on conversation skills with fun, practical, and engaging practice time intended to increase confidence and fluency.
One-to-one tutoring
From time-to-time, non-native and native English speakers may have need of one-to-one tutoring. Tutoring is available under certain circumstances.

Complete a Registration Form
Start by requesting a registration form. It's quick and easy to get started
Obtain Placement
Find the Right Class
If you are registering for your first class, other than a conversation practice, you will be asked to take a placement assessment to ensure that you are placed in the correct class. Don't worry. It's not a lengthy process!
Attend
Hands-On Learning
ESL classes meet two times per week in person. Conversation practice opportunities occur once per week
Practice
Beyond the Classroom
Classroom skills will be enhanced each week with opportunities to develop English language skills outside the classroom
FAQ
When are classes scheduled?
ESL classes begin in August and end in May each year. Exact dates vary by year. ESL classes meet two days per week and generally follow the Katy ISD school calendar for holidays and breaks.
Conversation practice classes are held June through August and meet one day per week.
How much do classes cost?
Classes are free thanks to our dedicated volunteers, but students may be required to pay for textbooks and workbooks.
